Vickie Kline is a librarian by day, and a cross-dressing opera aficionado by night.
She spends her days as a systems librarian and professor at York College of Pennsylvania -- she manages the library's online information systems and website. Before embarking on a career in libraries, her early love of opera led her to obtain a Bachelor of Music with a concentration in Music History from Pennsylvania State University. While there, she also studied piano and harpsichord and sang in the Concert Choir.
This is Vickie's fifth year with the Center Stage Opera. She's developed a quirky fondness for singing character roles in other voice ranges. In addition to her current role as Annina (mezzo soprano) in La Traviata, she has appeared as Goro (tenor) in Madama Butterfly, Alvise (bass) and the Cantore (baritone) in Ponchielli's La Gioconda, Benoît (baritone) and Parpignol (tenor) in Puccini's La Boheme, and L'Incredible (tenor) and La Contessa (mezzo soprano) in Giordano's Andrea Chenier. She also has sung in the CSO Chorus and narrated for a number of productions. The opportunity to participate in live opera performances comes as an unexpected gift. Seeing the work involved in staging operas has been an incredible learning experience for Vickie. She views the chance to watch how professional singers create their roles as a rare privilege.
Vickie also sings with the York Symphony Chorus.
