Mr. Patrick Paul Brown possesses a rare baritone voice that is suited for the difficult Puccini and Verdi roles. He recently enjoyed great success with the role of Scarpia in Tosca as a guest artist with the Brevard Opera Festival Orchestra under the direction of David Effron. Sharpless in Madama Butterfly is another Puccini role that Mr. Brown has performed with Henry Street Opera, Long Island Lyric Opera, and Indiana University. Mr. Brown recently sang the role of Iago with One World Symphony. While a student at Indiana University, he also performed the Verdi roles of Germont in La Traviata, Rigoletto and Monterone in Rigoletto, and Ford in Falstaff. His other roles include Danilo in The Merry Widow, Peter in Hansel and Gretel, and the Count in Le Nozze di Figaro.
His concert appearances include the American Music Festival in Hanover, Germany, a concert for AIMS in Graz, Austria with soprano Barbara Daniels, and an Opera Gala with the Oklahoma City Symphony Orchestra. He also recently participated in two benefit concerts for the Riverside Opera Company of Staten Island and St. Peter Church in Danbury, CT. He was heard this past year in concert with his wife, soprano Nancy Engel in Hanover, Germany, Virginia Beach, VA and Danbury, CT.
Mr. Brown attended the University of Oklahoma in his home state. A gifted athlete, he played football for the national championship Sooners under the coach Barry Switzer.While a student at the university, he studied voice with Thomas Carey who encouraged him to sing opera. He furthered his vocal studies at Inspiration Point Fine Arts Colony in Eureka Springs, AR, and at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. He completed his vocal studies with the American bass, Giorgio Tozzi, at Indiana University. His awards include the Indiana University Friends of Opera Scholarship, NATS Competition winner, and the Metropolitan Opera Competitions winner.
