John O'Loughlin's opera career began as a chorister in Strauss's Die Fledermaus (Elden Street Players, Washington, D.C.), Since then, John has performed as Sarastro and Second Armored Guard in Mozart's The Magic Flute, and has twice sung in Italy at the Tuscia Opera Festival, singing the role of Doctor Grenvil in Verdi's La Traviata, and in the summer of 2010 performing concert arias in Rome, Viterbo and Castiglione in Teverina, Italy. John has also appeared as Haly in L'Italiana in Algeri by Rossini and most recently as Sciarrone in Tosca. He studies voice with Dr. Sandra Jarrett of Port Republic, Maryland.

Musical theater: Grandfather in Ragtime, Dr. Prospero in Return to the Forbidden Planet, nominated Newtowne Players 2009 Best Musical Performance of the Year (singing/dancing Elvis Presley's "All Shook Up"); Fiddler, Spoon River Anthology; Musician/actor, Washington, D.C. Christmas Revels.
Traditional Music: John is an avid performer of traditional instrumental music on fiddle and numerous other folk instruments. His repertoire of Appalachian, Irish, Hispanic, and other musical traditions keeps him busy performing in concert and at Irish ceilis, American contradances, folk festivals, weddings, and living history events.
