Amanda Zory



The most recent winner of the Wagner Society of New York’s Vocal Competition - the Ursula Springer Endowment Award, the panel felt Ms. Zory has a “well-placed voice”, “solid chest register” and “she plants her self solidly and delivers!”

Hailed by SonicScoop as having (a), “…stunning voice and amazing use of facial expressions…Soprano Amanda Zory contributed yet another outstanding performance.”

            She is currently preparing ‘Leonora’ from Verdi’s Il Trovatore for performances with Center State Opera (NJ & PA). Verdi has come to the forefront of Ms. Zory’s budding operatic career. After a smash opening as ‘Donna Anna’ in Mozart’s Don Giovanni at Symphony Space with Vocal Productions NYC, the company requested that she reprise the role on tours to Michigan and Maryland in Winter and Spring of 2011/2012.  The following season, Vocal Productions NYC engaged Amanda to sing ‘Amelia’ in Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera (November, 2013) to kick off their season. Earlier the same seas on, Ms. Zory sang ‘Nora’ with vigor, in the world premiere of Bornfield’s The Garden, at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music. 
As a versatile performer of opera, recitals and new music, prestigious performance venues throughout Manhattan include Radio City Music Hall, (le) Poisson Rouge, Opera America, Symphony Space, Steinway Hall, The DiMenna Center for Classical Music, The Baryshnikov Arts Center, Galapagos Art Space, The Roosevelt House, The National Arts Club, The Estonian House, The Medicine Show Theatre, The Triad Theatre, and The Danny & Sylvia Kaye Playhouse.  Additionally, she has performed recitals throughout North American and Europe, was ‘House Soprano’ for ‘The Nouveau Classical Project’ (2007-2013), and is currently a Resident Artist with Vocal Productions NYC.  Companies include Vocal Productions Opera NYC, Opera Avanti, Hunter College Opera Theatre and Ithaca College Opera; additionally premiering many Off-Broadway productions with Metropolis Opera Project.

            Operatic highlights are ‘Amelia’ in Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera, ‘Donna Anna’ in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, ‘Fiordiligi’ in Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte, ‘Alida Slade’ in Ward’s Roman Fever, ‘Mother Marie’ in Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites, ‘Oprah Winfrey’ in Hevnor’s The Bully Pulpit (world premiere), ‘The Angel’ in Bornfield’s Sellout (world premiere), ‘Rosalinde’ (cover) in Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, ‘Anna Karenina’ (scenes) in Carleson’s Anna Karenina (NYC premiere), ‘Madame’ in Bornfields’s Madame (world premiere), ‘Dixie’ in Montgomery’s Billy Blythe (NYC premiere), ‘Nora’ in Bornfield’s The Garden (world premiere), and ‘Female Chorus’ in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia.

            Oratorio and choral works include soloist for Rossini’s Stabat Mater, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, The Mozart Requiem, and Corigliano’s Fern Hill.  In 2010, Ms. Zory was the First-Place Winner of the CUNY Concerto Competition.
In addition to classical venues, Ms. Zory was featured on MTV’s ‘Sleepover’ Television show in April of 2012 performing Wagner’s ‘Dich Teure Halle’.  It has been her great pleasure in collaborating and premiering many works by Kristin Hevnor, Howard Reich, Thomas Deneuville, Jeremiah Bornfield and Trevor Gureckis.  Ms. Zory began her pursuit in opera by attending the Pre-College Division at the Juilliard School.  She holds performance degrees from City University of New York’s, Hunter College (M.A.) and Ithaca College School of Music (B.M.).  She currently studies with world renowned Soprano, Pamela Kucenic and coaches with Joan Krueger.
